To find out more, we surveyed 2,000 people from across the UK, to see how often we’re sitting down for a Sunday roast, and what we’re putting on our plates.

The Perfect Sunday Roast

We asked the nation what one meat they would choose, as well as the trimmings to go with it. Despite us having more options than ever before, it appears you can’t go wrong with the classics when it comes to a Sunday roast.

What meat would you choose for your perfect Sunday roast?

When it comes to meat, beef is the UK’s number one choice, with 28.8% of Brits choosing this for their ideal roast dinner. Chicken is a close second, with 25.5% of people opting for this for their Sunday roast.

Which trimmings would you choose for your perfect Sunday roast?

As for the trimmings, you just can’t beat a roast potato, with a whopping 76.7% of Brits saying they’d want these on their Sunday roast. And you can’t have roast potatoes without gravy – 70.2% of people said they needed gravy for their roast dinner.

Which cities love gravy the most?

While for many of us, gravy is an essential part of a Sunday roast, this isn’t true in some parts of the country. Cardiff loves gravy the most, with a whopping 90.8% of people there saying they’d want it on their plate. But only 58.6% of people in Leeds wanted gravy on their dinner!

How often are we sitting down for a Sunday roast?

According to our research, only 1 in 4 Brits enjoy a Sunday roast every week, with a third of us having one less than once a month.

There are also some noticeable differences in how often we’re sitting down for a Sunday roast depending on where you are in the UK. People in Belfast are having the most roast dinners, with 41.7% enjoying one every week, followed by 37.4% of people in Liverpool. Up in Scotland, people in Glasgow are enjoying Sunday roasts the least, with just 15.3% having the meal once a week.
